Hotspot-Box with Cudy

Cudy routers and access points work with Hotspot-Box in AP (bridge) mode. The device connects to the box's LAN side and its Wi-Fi is bridged onto the box's guest network; the login screen, SMS verification and Law 5651 records stay on the box. Cudy's own 'guest network' feature is not used. Menu names change between firmware versions, so we describe each setting by its function.

The one setting that changes on the AP

Switch the device to AP (bridge) mode and connect its main Wi-Fi to the box's LAN; do not use the Cudy guest network feature.

Step by step

  1. 1

Set the Cudy device's operating mode to access point (AP); routing and DHCP are disabled.

  2. 2

Connect the device by cable to the box's LAN side or to an access port of the guest VLAN that goes to the box.

  3. 3

Broadcast the main SSID under the guest name; turn off Cudy's separate guest SSID.

  4. 4

If available, enable the client isolation (AP isolation) option.

  5. 5

Confirm no DNS or parental control setting is configured on the Cudy; in AP mode the device should get its address from the box.

  6. 6

Test: join the SSID, the box's screen should open, and the SMS code should get you online.

Common traps

  • The Cudy guest network feature isolates but keeps no identity-bound records and does not tag VLANs; use the main SSID bridged onto the box.

  • A Cudy left in router mode does NAT; the box sees all guests as one device.

  • Cudy's 4G/LTE models may stay as the router; then the box runs behind the Cudy and guest Wi-Fi is broadcast by a separate AP on the box's LAN.

  • Cudy devices in mesh or extender mode must stay on the main Cudy's bridged network; guests on a different SSID never reach the box.

  • Some Cudy AP models need passive PoE; check the model before powering it directly from an 802.3af switch.

Frequently asked

Is Cudy's own guest network feature enough for Law 5651?

It provides isolation, but no time-stamped, identity-bound records. Records and verification happen on the box; the Cudy only broadcasts the Wi-Fi.

Is a Cudy enough for a small cafe?

Yes, if the coverage area and the number of simultaneous guests are small. As the area grows, several APs or a managed AP series is more comfortable; nothing changes on the box side.

Can a Cudy connect to the box over RADIUS?

Consumer models usually do not have it and do not need it. Bridge mode is enough; for RADIUS integration look at managed AP series.
