Tutoring centres and courses
Students come to the same building for a whole term. Register them once, decide the speed and quota yourself during exam week, and keep the teachers' network separate.
- One registration per term
- Exam-week quota
- Teacher network separate
- Coupon option for parents
Video at break time, congestion in exam week
In a tutoring centre Wi-Fi is needed in class and distracting between classes. Students stream video at break time; in exam week that traffic slows the smart board and the teachers' connection. An access point alone cannot set a per-person limit.
Registration is the other burden. Sending hundreds of students an SMS code every day uses up SMS credit and the students' patience. Most students are also under 18, and how phone verification should be handled for minors is interpreted differently from one institution to another.
Teachers' laptops, the attendance system and the smart boards should never sit next to student traffic.
The student's age does not change the duty
A tutoring centre or course that opens internet access to its students is a mass-use provider under Law 5651. The law expects internal IP assignment records to be kept, protected with a timestamp and retained for 2 years; this does not depend on the student's age.
Get legal advice on verifying a minor with their own phone and on parental consent. The box works either way: the student verifies with their own phone, or the office opens the account with parental approval and hands the student a coupon. This page is not legal advice.

Set-up: the teachers' network is untouchable
- 1
The box sits between the modem and the building's switch. Teachers' laptops, attendance and smart boards stay on the staff VLAN; the student SSID runs on its own VLAN through the box.
- 2
Client isolation is turned on at the access points in classrooms and study rooms.
- 3
At the start of term the office creates students as registered users and prints coupons for those who want one.
- 4
Printers, security cameras and the canteen POS are kept outside the portal with MAC exemptions.
- 5
In exam week lower the speed and daily quota, then restore the old values at the end of term. The change is made in one place and applies to every access point.

Sign-in method
- Registered user
- Remembered device
- Coupon
Students are registered users for the term; with remembered device they are not asked to log in again every day. For minors, a coupon issued by the office with parental approval is the alternative. Our recommended 'staff' template: 20/10 Mbps, 10-hour session, 30-minute idle timeout, 3 devices, no quota, device remembered for 30 days. Add a daily quota and speed cap in exam week.
Ready-made plan templates
Speed, session and device count are set per plan on the box, independent of the access point brand. The values below are our own lab recommendations and can be changed in the panel.

- Device MAC address and assigned internal IP
- Session start and end time
- Daily hash chain and timestamp
- Acceptance of the privacy notice (consent record)
What is not recorded
- Websites visited
- Videos watched and messages
- Whether the student was in class or in the canteen
- School data such as grades or exam results
Example scenario
Example scenario: a university-prep tutoring centre
- Problem
- In exam weeks, students streaming video in the study rooms slow down the smart boards. The office hands out passwords one by one every term and cannot give parents a clear answer about students under 18.
- Solution
- The box is installed behind the modem, with the teacher and smart-board network moved to its own VLAN. At the start of term students are created as registered users with devices remembered for 30 days. For families who want parental approval, the office prints coupons. The 'staff' template applies; in exam week a 500 MB daily quota and a 5/2 Mbps cap are added.
- Outcome
- Students connect on a single registration all term, and the exam-week setting is changed from one screen. The teachers' network is unaffected by student traffic. Records stay in the centre and are stamped daily; parents' questions are answered with the privacy notice on the portal.
An illustrative example; no real business is named.
Frequently asked
Can a student under 18 verify with their own phone?
This is a question about a minor's personal data and parental consent, and we recommend getting legal advice. The box supports both routes: the student verifies with an SMS code, or the office issues a coupon after parental approval. The access record is kept the same way on either route.
Can I switch the internet off completely in exam week?
The box has no scheduled on/off switch. Instead, lower the speed and daily quota and shorten the session in exam week; if you work with coupons, issue them with a validity that does not cover exam week. Restore the old values at the end of term.
Will the teachers' network be affected?
It should not be; teachers' laptops, smart boards and the attendance system stay on a separate VLAN and do not pass through the box. Student traffic lives within the per-person limits the box sets. Your installer makes this separation on the switch and access points.
Do I have to delete student records at the end of term?
You can close the user account, but the access records stay on the box for the 2-year retention period and expired days are deleted automatically. If a student or parent files a data-protection request, you use the request management and anonymisation tools in the panel. Where a retention duty and a deletion request collide, get legal advice.
Is there a filter to keep students off harmful sites?
The box is not a content filter or a family filter. DNS filtering, as a general concept, can be added to your network separately; the box does not provide it. The box's job is to verify the login, set per-person limits and keep the access record.
