Pre-Installation Checklist

What needs to be ready at your venue before Hotspot-Box installation day. Tick every item; a missing item is the most common reason an installation runs long.

01 November 2026 · version 1.0 · hotspot-box.com

Internet and modem

  • The existing modem/router works and stays in place; the box does not replace it, it sits behind it. Line type (fibre, ADSL, 4.5G backup) noted. No static IP is needed.
  • An IP address is reserved for the box's WAN side (DHCP reservation or manual). Outbound connections from the box (NTP, timestamp service, SMS provider, hotspot-box platform) are not blocked at the modem.
  • A physical spot is ready for the box: power socket, ventilation and at least two Ethernet cables (WAN and guest LAN).

Switch and access points

  • The switch ports that will carry guest traffic are identified; the path from the box's LAN port to the access points is sketched on paper.
  • The access points are confirmed to support a separate guest SSID and client isolation.
  • The number of access points and the expected peak of concurrent users are noted (the licence covers 250 concurrent users).

VLAN and SSID

  • A VLAN ID is chosen for the guest network; the staff network, tills/POS and cameras stay outside this VLAN.
  • The guest SSID name is agreed (example: "{{venue}} Guest"). The network is broadcast without a password; the captive portal handles authentication.
  • Devices exempt from portal authentication (printers, TVs, POS, IoT) are listed and their MAC addresses collected.

SMS provider and sender ID

  • The SMS route is chosen: a hotspot-box credit pack or your own provider account (İleti Merkezi, NetGSM, Verimor, TurkeySMS or a generic HTTP API).
  • The sender ID (SMS header) is approved on the provider side. Approval can take several working days; do not wait for installation day.
  • If guests with foreign numbers are expected, a separate provider or routing for international SMS is decided.

Portal branding and texts

  • Logo (PNG with transparent background or SVG) and brand colours are ready.
  • Sign-in methods are chosen: SMS code first; coupon, e-mail, registered user and the device-remembering period are decided.
  • The privacy notice, consent text and terms of use shown on the portal have been reviewed by your legal adviser; the post-login redirect address (website, menu, campaign) is set.

Second copy of the archive (SFTP/FTPS)

  • An SFTP or FTPS destination is chosen for the archive copy (your own server, a NAS or a hosting service).
  • A user name, key or password and write permission exist on the destination; outbound access from the box to it is allowed.
  • Enough space for a 2-year (730-day) archive is reserved on the destination. Daily files are small; still, plan for your busiest days.

Alarms

  • The alarm channel is chosen: e-mail, Telegram or webhook. Recipient addresses and channel IDs are ready.
  • The alarm topics are shared with the team: disk usage, timestamp service, SMS credit (below 100), box offline.
  • It is decided who watches the alarms and who responds; a deputy is named.

People and access

  • The panel administrator and roles are decided: who installs, who pulls reports, who may see masked guest phone numbers.
  • Administrator e-mail addresses work; the panel sign-in code arrives by e-mail.
  • The person and contact address that will answer data-subject requests on behalf of the venue as data controller are named.

This list is not legal advice; adapt it to your venue.
